Crayon Rubbing Made Easy

To make the rubbing process easier for preschoolers, we came up with the idea of taping the leaves and flowers to the kitchen table, then covering the whole thing with a great big sheet of newsprint. This kept the paper from shifting when small hands started vigorously rubbing with their crayons.

tape the leaves and flowers to the table.
Tape the leaves and flowers to a flat surface.

tape newsprint over top of the leaves and flowers.
Tape a large sheet of newsprint over top of the leaves and flowers to prevent slippage.

rub the crayons over the entire surface of the newsprint.
Using the side of unwrapped crayons, rub the surface of the paper wherever you can feel the leaves and flowers underneath.

multiple colors create interesting effects.
By rubbing with different colors in the same place, interesting effects occur.

Once done, the paper can be used as wrapping paper, a mural, or cut and glued into other art projects.
