Soap

Kids just love to make this kind of thing.
And when they make it themselves, are thrilled to use it.

Ingredients

1 - 9 1/2 ounce can Gillette lye
2 1/2 pints cold water
4 pounds lard

Stir the lye into the cold water until it is dissolved. They lye will heat up the water. Allow to cool to 80 F.

Melt the lard and set saside until it cools to 90 F. Slowly pour the lye solution into the lard. DO NOT POUR THE LARD INTO THE LYE. Stir slowly and evenly until thoroughly mixed -- about 10 minutes. Pour into a wooden box lined with a cloth. Cover well and set in a warm place for 2 to 3 days. Turn out and cut into bars. DO NOT USE for 1 month. This will make about 8 pounds of soap.

NOTE:
If you have sensitive skin and are prone to rashes, don't use this soap. It can be used as an insecticidal soap -- dissolve 1 teaspoon soap in 4 cups water. Spray on plants every 2 weeks for 2 months for a problem plant. Then spray once every 5 to 6 weeks as a preventive measure. It is all natural and will break down in 24 hours. It will not harm ants or ladybugs.
